When is the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site open?

The Concentration Camp Memorial Site is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. The Memorial Site is only closed on December 24th (Christmas Eve). The former crematorium area is closed at 4:45 pm.

The administrative offices of the  Memorial Site are located in the eastern wing of the former maintenance building. Staff are present from Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Following prior registration, the archive and library of the Memorial Site are open for public use from Tuesday to Friday between 9:00 am and 5 pm.

How much is the entrance fee?

Entrance to the Memorial Site is free. No prior appointment of your visit is necessary.

If you are planning to use a car or motorbike to get to the Memorial Site, please note that fees are charged for using the parking lot.

Is the Memorial Site appropriate for children?

There is no special exhibition for children at the Dachau Memorial Site, and some of the content may not be appropriate for children under 13. It is therefore recommended that children visit the Memorial Site only when accompanied by their parents. All of the programs offered by the Education Department are for visitors aged 13 and above.

How much time should I plan for a visit?

Most visitors need half a day to explore the grounds and look at the various exhibitions. If you have little time available, then we recommend that you set priorities and focus on your key points of interest. Overviews of the grounds and the exhibitions are available at Virtual Tour and Exhibitions. Guided tours usually take 2.5 hours.

Are there guided tours of the Concentration Camp Memorial Site?

The Memorial Site offers daily guided tours for individual visitors aged 13 and over in German and English. The tours in German take place at 12.00 noon, the tours in English at 11.00 am and 1.00 pm.

The tours usually last two and a half hours. Participation costs 4 euros. Please note that the number of participants is limited to 30 people. Please buy your ticket at the visitor center at least 30 minutes before the start of the tour on the day of the offer. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a reservation.

Please note that only persons licensed by the Education Department of the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site are permitted to conduct educational offers/tours at the Memorial Site.

Is it permitted to take photos and videos or film?

Non-commercial filming and photographing of the outdoor grounds and the exhibition areas without a tripod are permitted for private purposes. We do urgently request however that you respect the dignity of the Memorial Site as a place of remembrance and make sure that you do not disturb other visitors.

You are not permitted to film and photograph guided tours and seminars, nor tour guides and staff of the Memorial Site; it is prohibited to use drones.

Filming is not permitted in the former crematorium.

Is there a facility for storing luggage?

No, unfortunately there is no possibility to store any luggage, and there are no lockers.

What should I bear in mind when visiting the Concentration Camp Memorial Site?

The Concentration Camp Memorial Site is a place to remember the people who suffered in Dachau concentration camp and the more than 41,500 prisoners who died here. It has the character of a cemetery, a place of mourning and remembrance. We therefore ask you to observe certain rules of conduct when visiting the concentration camp memorial. Are dogs allowed on the grounds?

Please note that dogs are not permitted anywhere on the grounds of the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. This does not apply to guide dogs.

Can I take a bike on the premises?

Bikes are not allowed on the premises. There are bicycle stands at the entrance next to the bus stop where you can leave your bike during your visit.
