Sister Elija is active at the<br \/>\nCarmelite convent Dachau<br \/>\nsince 1966. She began her photographic documentation of the Memorial Site<br \/>\ngrounds with color slides. The outcome, ultimately unsatisfying for her, was: a<br \/>\nMemorial Site without people, empty. Since 1988 she has used her meetings and<br \/>\nencounters with former prisoners to engage in discussion, to hold interviews,<br \/>\nand to take photos, now in black and white. The result is more than 100 photos<br \/>\nwith which Sister Elija has sought to get closer to the history of the<br \/>\nlocation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ce_text block\">\n<div class=\"image_container float_left\" style=\"padding: 5px 10px 5px 0px; float: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kz-gedenkstaette-dachau.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/bilder\/html\/Reijntjes, Pim - Niederlande-9f3c9eda.jpg\" alt=\"Pim Reijntjes\" width=\"170\" height=\"252\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"caption\">Pim Reijntjes<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The idea to hold an exhibition was<br \/>\nborn in 1996, as the photos became known. \u201cWer Augen hat zu sehen\u2026\u201d was first<br \/>\nshown in Catholic organizations and then in several educational institutions<br \/>\nthroughout the whole of Bavaria<br \/>\nand nearby countries. Almost every time the exhibition was opened by Max<br \/>\nMannheimer, who has provided Sister Elija with many contacts.<\/p>\n<p>Sister Elija is now pleased with her<br \/>\ndecision. \u201cIt takes nothing away from my personal memories.
