The literary estate of Stanislav
\nZ\u00e1me\u010dn\u00edk<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On March 20, 2013 the
\nMemorial Site received the literary estate of the Dachau survivor, historian,
\nand important contemporary witness, Stanislav Z\u00e1me\u010dn\u00edk.<\/p>\n

Detailed to the
\nprisoner sick bay as an orderly Z\u00e1me\u010dn\u00edk fought to save ill prisoners from 1941
\nonwards, witnessing there the medical experiments conducted as well as the
\nresistance groups, their clandestine activities usually out of view of the
\nother prisoners. After 1945\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Z\u00e1me\u010dn\u00edk was tireless in his efforts to
\nresearch the history of the Dachau concentration camp, despite the host of
\nrestrictions and occupational bans imposed by the Communist regime in
\nCzechoslovakia. The result of this research was the standard work That was Dachau<\/em>. He also contributed his
\nextensive knowledge to the redevelopment of the permanent exhibition in the
\nmuseum. His widow, Mrs. Bernatova, has presented the Memorial Site with his
\nliterary estate, filling three crates. These contain numerous research notes,
\nphotos and letters which Z\u00e1me\u010dn\u00edk wrote during his imprisonment as well as
\nthose he received from his family. This private correspondence will undoubtedly
\nbecome a key element in reconstructing Z\u00e1me\u010dn\u00edk\u2019s biography.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
