Conference of archive and databank staff in October 2013 in Dachau<\/h1>\n

Held annually for the last 15 years, this
\ninternational workshop is for staff working with databanks \u2013 in particular for
\ngathering data on the victims of National Socialism \u2013 in memorial sites and
\narchives. After a break of 13 years Dachau
\nonce again hosted the conference. The archivist Albert Knoll organized the
\nconference and oversaw its running.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Wednesday, October 23, the participants took part
\nin a tour of the Memorial Site, while the actual conference was held on October
\n24 and 25 in the Jugendg\u00e4stehaus in Dachau.
\nIn the first of fourteen talks, Albert Knoll presented the Memorial Site\u2019s prisoner
\ndatabase. In 2010 this was converted into an individual, web-based relational
\nsystem that is optimally tailored to the needs of the Memorial Site.<\/p>\n

Representatives from memorial sites and other
\ninstitutions from seven different countries took part in this year\u2019s
\nconference. Those from Germany
\nwere joined in Dachau by colleagues from the Czech Republic,
\nIsrael, Poland, Austria,
\nLithuania, and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

The presentations and
\nnumerous discussions initiated a fruitful exchange amongst the some 40 participants
\non technological questions, the content of databanks as well as the storage of
\nsource materials. Besides the tour of the Memorial Site, the participants
\nvisited the former SS grounds and took part in an excursion to Munich focusing on the
