For the last two years the Dachau Memorial Site has
\nbeen gradually reworking the presentation of exhibits in the museum. Exhibits
\nboth already known and hitherto unseen from our collection have been presented
\nin new display cases. The goal is to improve the optical aspect and the subject
\nmatter of the exposition while giving due consideration to conservational
\nconcerns.<\/p>\n

The most recent innovations are two large exhibits.
\nFirstly, a barrow from the \u201cplantation\u201d work detail is now on display, a symbol
\nof the arduous working conditions and the daily harassment the prisoners were
\nexposed to. Besides for the work on the fields, barrows were used to transport
\nthe exhausted and dead back to the camp.<\/p>\n

The second large object we are able to present \u2013
\nthanks to a loan by the Gauting municipality \u2013 is a cast of the memorial by
\nHubertus von Pilgrim to remember the evacuation marches the Dachau
\nconcentration camp prisoners were forced to embark on. The sculpture is
\ncomplemented by a map showing the routes of the death marches and the locations
\nof memorials along the way.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the spring of this year seven new display cases
\nwere set up for smaller objects. They show objects from everyday life in the
\ncamp (shaving set, plates and dishes), reflect the limited free time given to
\nthe prisoners (tobaccos, books from the camp library, football trophy), and focus
\non key themes like resistance and self-assertion (illegal armbands, wall tiles
\nwith notes on imprisonment) as well as mementos of the time imprisoned (booklet
\nwith signatures of fellow prisoners).<\/p>\n

Last year two large objects were given a new
\npresentation and contextualized: the replica of the whipping block from the prisoner
\nbaths and the card file table from the camp orderly room.<\/p>\n

The design and setting of the display cases and large
\nobjects was completed in cooperation with the exhibition designers B\u00fcro
\nM\u00fcller-Rieger from Munich, the Fritz carpentry firm from Tiefenbach,
\nArzenheimer electronics in Eichst\u00e4tt, and the conservator Ernst Bielefeld from
