Guiding
\nprinciple of the Education Department at Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial
\nSite<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Education Department
\nexplains its self-concept and the overriding goals of its educational work in
\nthis brochure. The cornerstone of the educational work done at Dachau
\nConcentration Camp Memorial Site is the historical site itself \u2013 a place with a
\nvariety of different functions aimed at promoting learning and contemplation,
\nremembrance and commemoration, as well as international engagement. Conveying
\nwhat the victims experienced is essential to the site\u2019s daily educational work.
\nSince the Education Department considers itself to be a creative workshop, it
\nwould like to enable the younger generation, in particular, to develop its own
\nforms for the expression of remembrance and commemoration. As a place of international
\nengagement, Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, along with its educational
\nwork, stands for tolerance and open-mindedness. As a political site, it
\nreflects the development of German society and the sometimes vehement
\ncontroversies on how to deal with the past. In the future, too, it would like
\nto continue to serve as a place that stimulates reflection and critical
\ndiscussion.<\/p>\n
