For the second time we have organized a workshop to shed some light on recent developments in historical education worldwide. The impact of Covid-19 has been felt in cultural institutions all around the world \u2013 especially in the educational departments. Many museums and memorial sites had been closed for weeks and months \u2013 sometimes for the first time in their history. Educators working at these places had to come up with ideas on how to deal with the new situation. Often an accelerated or even completely new approach on digital or virtual resources has been the answer \u2013 many of these ideas can be found on the usual social media sites under #closedbutopen \u2013 but sometimes the forced break\u00a0 was also used to take a step back and develop methods and materials for the time after the shutdown.<\/p>\n
In this edition of our workshop series \u201cEducation and memory in times of a global crisis\u201d we will take a look at current educational practices at sites and institutions that deal with violent pasts in their countries or regions. The speakers are Mofidul Hoque (Liberation War Museum, Dhaka\/Bangladesh), Honore Gatera (Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kigali\/Rwanda), Yaron Tzur (Ghetto Fighters’ House Museum, Westgalil\u00e4a\/Israel) and Virginie Genest und Marie Pellegrini (Maison d’Izieu–M\u00e9morial des enfants juifs extermin\u00e9s, D\u00e9partement Ain\/France). They will present ideas and projects that they think might be helpful to other institutions all around the world. There is going to be space for questions as well as time to discuss the impact of these ideas in smaller groups.<\/p>\n
