Ivor Perl, born Yitzchak Perlmutter in Mako (Hungary) in 1932, was deported to Auschwitz concentration camp at the age of 12 together with his parents and eight siblings. His father, his older brother Alec and he were registered as prisoners in the Kaufering subcamp in September 1944 after a death march from Auschwitz concentration camp. They had to perform forced labor in the Kaufering subcamp. His father died in December 1944 in the Riederloh subcamp. Ivor Perl was brought to the infirmary with a typhoid infection. The two young people fled during a bombing raid at the end of April 1945. After liberation, Ivor Perl went to England with his brother and built a life there with his wife Rhoda.<\/p>\n
Since the late 1990s, Ivor Perl has been speaking as a survivor in schools, organizations and public events about his experiences and memories, which he published as a book entitled “Chicken Soup Under the Tree” together with his granddaughter Lia Bratt in 2023. In 2016, he was awarded the British Empire Medal for his commitment. He is currently working with filmmaker Zoom Rockman on an animated graphic novel of his life story. In the online eyewitness talk, Ivor Perl will also provide initial insights into this artistic exploration of his memories in an exchange with Zoom Rockman.<\/p>\n
