Train track

Question:

Is it
true that the prisoners were transported by train right up to the gates of the Dachau
concentration camp?

Answer:

Up until
the outbreak of the war the SS transported most prisoners to the concentration
camp on trucks or buses. Later prisoners were brought to Dachau by train. Some
of these trains ended at the railway station in the town of Dachau, meaning
that the prisoners were forced to march the remaining three kilometers to the
camp. Other trains took a branch line to the SS barracks section of the camp
grounds and stopped some 200 meters from the entrance to the actual prisoner
camp.
